A 200-ton crane helping to build the West Norfolk Bridge on Highway 164 in Portsmouth partially collapsed Tuesday afternoon, knocking six concrete girders into the water.

Officials say the crane was on a one-foot-thick wooden mat, setting the concrete girders into place on the Pinners Point Project, when one of the crane's tracks slipped around 1:45pm. This sent the crane's boom across the span, knocking the girders down.

08/25/03: Texoma, Oklahoma — Bridge Blocked by Downed Crane

Motorists using the Highway 25 bridge over Beaver Creek near FM 367 should have been driving over the new bridge there tongiht. Unfortunately the delays and detours will last a bit longer. A huge crane picking up the concrete traffic lane barriers toppled onto the semi truck it was loading them onto shortly after 8am this morning. No one was injured, but the one lane open to traffic had to be closed. Work on the bridge which started in October is complete and they hope to have the crane removed by tonight and traffic on the new bridge open by tomorrow morning.
